Wang Shumei, permanent member of the Supreme People's Court (SPC)'s judicial committee (vice-minister level), underscored the need to thoroughly understand the significance of fostering foreign-related legal talents and to propel the high-quality development of foreign-related trial work.

She made those remarks at the opening session of a training course on foreign-related commercial and maritime trial work, a week-long course that started on Aug 7 at the international maritime judicial research base of the SPC in Qingdao, East China’s Shandong province.

Acknowledging foreign-related commercial and maritime trials as an important field to advance domestic and foreign-related rule of law in a coordinated manner, Wang advised to combine the training with the Party’s education campaign and capacity improvement  in judicial organs in order to enhance political awareness among judicial personnel, as well as their ability to apply domestic and international laws. Training disciplines should be strictly observed  and fine academic conduct should be cultivated among trainees, she said, adding that more efforts are needed to turn training outcomes into real practices, so as to safeguard the country’s higher level opening-up.

Nearly 50 personnel from the SPC and local courts specialized in this field attended the training.
