Cross-division collegial bench for inter-provincial trial

On the morning of September 27th, 2017, the judges from Shanghai Maritime Court’s Free Trade Zone Dispatched Division and Yangkou Dispatched Division formed a cross-division collegial bench to trial and deliberate a case of disputes over maritime freight forwarding contract, and pronounced the judgment in court。

This is the first time that Shanghai Maritime Court ever held such a trial, in which the judges of the collegial bench were from different divisions, the plaintiff, the defendant and the judges stayed separately in the court headquarters in Shanghai and Yangkou Dispatched Division in Jiangsu Province, and the case was trialed and deliberated with the help of information technology. The trial was successful and praised by both of the parties.

It is a measure taken by Shanghai Maritime Court to adapt to its characteristic of cross-administrative-area jurisdiction, to make full play of the judges’ professional expertise, to facilitate the parties to participate in litigation, and so as to actively promote the "Smart Maritime Court" construction.
