Shanghai Maritime Court Marks its Three Consecutive titles of “the Most Transparent” Maritime Court

On March 28th,the Annual Report on China’s Rule of Law No.17 (2019)(Blue Book of the Rule of Law) jointly edited by the Law Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Social Sciences Academic Press, publishes Report on Index of Transparency of Maritime Justice in China(2018). Shanghai Maritime Court has been rated as “the most transparent” maritime court for three consecutive years.

To assess the development of transparency of maritime justice in China, the Rule of Law Index Innovation Program team of the law institute of Chinese Academy of Social Science carried out an investigation and assessment of judicial openness of ten Maritime Courts across the nation. Shanghai Maritime Court ranked first at the total points of 77.2 and 91.7 respectively at the year of 2016 and 2017. In 2018, Shanghai Maritime Court continued to win the first place honorably with the total score of 93.

In 2018, Shanghai Maritime Court had been openly published information of court trials and enforcement through its website, national judicial open platform and other various media platforms, so as to improve transparency and influence of maritime justice and judicial credibility. In addition, Shanghai Maritime Court has been continuously improved its website channels and settings to expand the breadth and depth of judicial disclosure, and achieved better results.

The "Blue Book of the Rule of Law" pointed out that the portal website is an important window for foreign parties to understand the judicial status of China's maritime affairs. ,As the international maritime judicial base of the Supreme People's Court, Shanghai Maritime Court has revised the portal website，which is more stable and more rich in content. Shanghai Maritime Court continues to publish the annual maritime trial white paper in both Chinese and English, and to make it publicly available in a timely manner.
